In 1751 Severo Arango y Ferro arrived in Cartagena de Indias with the mind set to try and control and increase the commerce between American Spanish colonies and Spain.
His strength and power gave him the name of ‘Dictador’. Since his first sight and taste “Dictador” fell in love with all the sweetness and elegance of the tropical elixir called rum, he then worked his way to become the most important producer and trader of different exotic and high quality rums.
The Birth of the Company
In 1913, almost 180 years after Dictador landed in Cartagena de Indies one of his descendants, Don Julio Arango y Parra, decided to establish Destileria Colombiana. He then went on to investigate Dictator’s life and, and everything he did with rum production, to become the best rum maker in the Caribbean, dedicating his life to honor Dictador’s legacy.
