Domaines Bonfils is a family business, that has been growing grapes since 1870. Now in the 6th generation, the business comprises 19 Domaines and Chateaux, 17 of which are in the Languedoc with 1800 hectares of vineyards, making them one of the largest independent grape-grower/wine producers in France. Chateau Capitoul at the southern most point of the Cru La Clape area, and closest to the sea has a strong maritime influence; cooling sea breezes and mists help to make the wines unique. At 62 hectares it represents 10% of the entire appellation. The estate was purchased by the Bonfils Family in 2011.
