John Crabbie’s legendary whisky company has been given a new lease of life and is to start producing whisky again in their new Edinburgh distillery. In the meantime they have launched a series of whiskies from various distilleries – this 12-year-old single is from an undisclosed Island distillery.

John Crabbie’s award-winning range of independently bottled whiskies come from the newly restored John Crabbie & Co of Edinburgh. John Crabbie was a whisky pioneer and one of the first to bottle whisky under his own name, purchasing from over 70 distilleries across Scotland.

John Crabbie 1994 25 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

We have hand selected cask number 5179 from Tobermory distillery to bottle after 25 years maturation. Our 1994 single malt whisky has been matured in an ex-sherry cask giving rich notes of fruit cake, dark chocolate and warming spices. The single cask was bottled exclusively for Scotland with just 247 bottles produced. Each bottle is non-chill filtered, naturally coloured.

Nose: Sweet macerated dates, fruit cake and warming spices, and white truffle.
Taste: Rich sherry soaked raisins and dried orange, salted caramel, and a touch of bitter sweet chocolate.
Finish: Medium finish with a gentle spiced note, orange marmalade and rich dark chocolate finish.

Crabbie 30 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Finally, the second release of John Crabbie 30 year old is here. Again, this is an undisclosed single cask, single malt Scotch whisky from a famous Speyside heavyweight distillery. As with the last few releases from Crabbies, we cannot disclose which distillery this cask is from, but what we can say is that it is from the same batch of casks to the last 30 and 25-year-old releases. 
We have also been informed that this will be the last bottling from John Crabbie from this specific distillery so it is worth grabbing one or two whilst you can.

Crabbie 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The sherried 40 Year Old is their oldest to date and it has been made by one of Scotland’s most treasured distilleries. Although we’re not allowed to tell you exactly who, many of you will know that there are only a handful of Speyside distilleries it could have come from at this age. Only 350 individually numbered decanters of John Crabbie & Co 40 Year Old were made. The elixir within is rich with notes of treacle, golden syrup, honey, clotted cream, orange peel, wood spice, dark chocolate, boiled sweets, bruised red apples and lemon drizzle cake. Complex, smooth and really rather sophisticated.

Nose: Sweet molasses, summer fruits and coconut 

Palate: Subtle treacle and rich cocoa 

Finish: Roasted marshmallows, creamy caramel and more summer fruits 

Crabbie 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

John Crabbie was a true pioneer who sourced the finest whisky from over 70 distilleries across Scotland for his famous Crabbie brand. 
We are very pleased to present our exquisite 50 year old single malt which has been hand-selected from the same Islay distillery that John Crabbie procured his whisky from in 1884.
This is an exceptionally rare single cask release presented exactly as the distiller intended: without colouring, chill-filtration, and at cask strength. One of just 220 decanters hand-filled in 2020; this whisky has been matured for five decades in the same coastal warehouse visited by John Crabbie.

Nose: Ripe apricots, dates, candied orange peel with autumnal spices. Sweet toffee and strawberry linger on the nose.

Palate: Smooth, buttery mouthfeel with decadent syrup sponge, beautifully warming with notes of salted nut brittle, toffee, crème anglaise all wrapped together with gentle wisps of oak smoke.

Finish: Orange and lemon marmalade, candied ginger, subtle nuttiness with a long well developed finish that only time can create.
